Former Member: Anne Witherell, Trombone
Anne Witherell played trombone with the Menlo Brass Quintet from 1982 to 1991. After many years living, teaching, and playing in Wisconsin, Anne passed away in September of 2024.
Anne held a Bachelor of Music degree form the Eastman School of Music and a PhD in music from Stanford. She taught brass instruments at the University of California at Santa Cruz and at Bethany Bible College while she was living in California. Anne was also a member of the Antiquarian Funks, the San Francisco Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble (tenor sackbut), and the Blomstedt Festival Orchestra, among other groups.
She taught low brass as a specialist in the trombone at the Lawrence Academy of Music, a division of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Anne is the author of "Louis Pécour's 1700 Recueil de Dances," published in 1981, on the subject of Renaissance dance music.
