Former Member: Bob Lipton, tuba
Bob Lipton joined the Menlo Brass Quintet in 1993. In 2015, he retired from teaching music and began to make plans to move to an island in Washington. In January 2016, after 23 years with the Menlo Brass, Bob retired.
Bob was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended San Francisco State University for a B.A. in Music and was named the outstanding musical graduate.
Bob has performed with many of the local symphonies such as Coastal Valley, Santa Rosa, Napa, Oakland, Monterey, San José, Fremont, Vallejo, Marin and Berkeley. Bob was a member of Bel Canto Brass, San Francisco Brassworks, and the San Francisco Forty Niners Band, and played with the California Shakespeare Company, Klezmermania, the New Vaudeville Festival, and the Indian Academy Awards in Mumbai. He has recorded and toured with the eclectic bands Clubfoot Orchestra and Kamikaze Ground Crew, playing at the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in Germany, and the New Music America Festival in New York City. Bob was a member of Tom Petty's high school rock and roll band — after Tom left the group. As a composer and arranger, Bob has over 60 pieces in publication for string orchestra and concert band.
