Dan Hallock, Trumpets

Dan Hallock, trumpets Dan Hallock was born in Florida but grew up in Montana, where he was awarded a trumpet scholarship in high school. Dan received a Minor in Music while earning his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

Dan was active in both the RPI Jazz Ensemble and Symphony, and was a founding member of the RPI Brass Quintet. He has performed with the Great Falls Symphony (Montana) and the Redwood Symphony (California). Dan played with local 19-piece big bands including the Stanford University Studio Jazz Band, Tuesday Night Live, and the Lyratones. He currently plays split lead (and occasional solos) in the Full Spectrum Jazz big band. Dan studied trumpet with Fran Sidor, Dave Stahl, and Wayne Bergeron.

Dan spent 14 years at Ampex Corp. in various engineering and engineering management positions, where he developed ten different digital data and video magnetic recording systems. He was awarded both the Alexander M. Poniatoff Silver Award and the Allied Signal Corporate Technical Achievement Award for outstanding contribution in the development of the Super High Bit Rate Recorder.

For the next 14 years, Dan worked as Director of Design and Systems Engineering within Boston Scientific's Electrophysiology Business (originally at Cardiac Pathways Corporation, acquired by Boston Scientific in 2001), where he designed many advanced catheters and several systems for diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias.

For eight years, Dan was Director of R & D at a medical device start-up company in Santa Clara, Miramar Labs, Inc., dedicated to developing the next generation energy modality to treat dermatalogic medical conditions for which there are significant unmet clinical needs. With miraWave technology, a breakthrough innovative and novel electromechanical non-invasive technology platform using targeted microwave energy in conjunction with precise thermal cooling and vacuum acquisition to treat primary axillary hyperhidrosis or excessive underarm sweat as well as odor and hair, commercial launch of the miraDry system has resulted in worldwide shipment of more than 600 systems used to successfully treat more than 40,000 axillary sweat or odor-bothered patients.

Dan served as Senior Director of R & D at EarLens Corporation for five years. The EarLens System's unique mechanism of direct sound delivery opens the door to a level of sound performance achieved by no hearing aid on the market today. The EarLens Contact Hearing Device is designed to transform the user’s own eardrum into a speaker, which enables delivery of an ultra-wide frequency range (from 125 to 10,000 Hz) and a higher maximum gain margin. The intended result is the next generation of sound performance.

Dan resides in Redwood City with his wife, Janet. Their two grown sons, David and Joey, have taken after their Dad — both are mechanical engineers and musicians. While not being Dad, husband, inventor, or musician, Dan is an avid fan of Formula One and Indy Car open wheel racing.

Dan is a founding member of the Menlo Brass Quintet.
